investing in spaces, projects, and people to build joyful civic engagement.

The Civic Space Foundation was created to invest in joyful civic projects and lay the groundwork for the new town hall around the United States.

Healthy, vibrant communities need high quality spaces for civic gathering - to meet one's elected officials, learn about the issues of the day, and to be the starting point to getting involved.

Inspired by Manny’s, a civic gathering and event space in San Francisco, the Civic Space Foundation is a response to the growing need for people to come together in person, get civically involved in their communities, and support creative civic gathering spaces in the tough economic times after the pandemic.

The Civic Space Foundation aims to partner and invest in the people, organizations, and projects working to build these civic gathering spaces around the country.

Our first step will be to support those civic projects happening right now in our own backyard here in San Francisco with the Civic Joy Fund.

We are teaming up with artists, musicians, small businesses, volunteers and community leaders to bring more art, music, color, energy and enthusiasm to our city streets - the most public of civic spaces - to assist in the economic recovery of our City.

We are just getting started.

The Five Projects of the Civic Joy Fund will be:

Adopt-A-Block: Investing $100,000 each on 4 blocks around the City to help with physical improvements.

The Civic Joy Corps: A big monthly first Saturdays volunteer project that brings 100 San Franciscans together to do some good. Anyone can sign up to join here.

Clean Up the City: Organizing 10 weekly neighborhood trash pick ups followed by communal meals. Anyone can sign up to join here.

Paint The City: Paying artists to paint pieces of public art in 10 neighborhoods.

Summer of Music: Paying musicians to play every Saturday on commercial streets in nine neighborhoods this Summer. Musicians can sign here.
